Featuring a complete body and chassis redesign, chief designer Ikuo Maeda of Mazda talked about the design features and concepts behind the new 2007 Mazda Demio.

"The DNA, or fundamental element, of Mazda's design philosophy is athleticism. Using this as a basis, we have pursued new ways to express motion. Form, line and light came into play, and a combination of these three design elements rigorously studied allowed us to create an amazing variety of expression of dynamic beauty, something that you would never imagine from a compact car.

"To clearly separate ourselves from the flat interior design typically found in most compact cars, the all new Mazda Demio gets three dimensional form with a great solid feel suggestive of motion. Our greatest focus was to create an open feel, which is not just about ride comfort, but creating space that makes it easy for the driver to not only operate the car, but also enjoy the experience."

Available in 11 colors, the Demio 13C-V retails for 1,310,000 yen or approximately US$10,600.
